The HOKA UTMB Mont-Blanc
is the most incredible trail running event! Each
year, the best athletes meet in Chamonix and more
than 10'000 runners participate in one of the event's
8 races, including the UTMB World Series Finals.
ONE OF THE MOST PRESTIGIOUS
RACES IN THE WORLD
The Ultra Trail du
Mont Blanc (UTMB) is one of the world’s best
known endurance running events, taking place each
August.
It is the centrepiece
of a week-long event named after it, the UTMB World
Series Finals. Based in Chamonix, France, it sees
almost 10,000 runners compete in seven different
races.
A brutal 170km route,
the UTMB itself features more than 10km of ascent.
The start line in the center of
Courmayeur overflows with an atmosphere that only
Italians know how to create. After the first kilometers,
you will quickly climb to 2500m of altitude to enjoy
an exceptional landscape, facing the Mont-Blanc
and the Grandes Jorasses. The path to the Grand
col Ferret invites you to cross into Switzerland,
where you will enjoy the incomparable welcome of
the volunteers of La Fouly, Champex and Trient.
Once across the border in France, discover the authenticity
of Vallorcine, before climbing up to Vallons des
Chezerys, a true corner of paradise with a magnificent
view over the Mont-Blanc chain. It is then time
to push through and receive a hero's welcome across
the finish line in the heart of Chamonix.

CCC is done!

UTMB
Mont-Blanc CCC is done!
It was beautiful,
spectacular, gruelling, a little scarey and
fun…all the right elements for ultra
running.
Hot and steep climbs were all worth it for
the views and except for general fatigue I
could move up hill okay throughout…
the steep technical descents after about 70k
got to me and my quads started to hate me
pretty quickly so moving downhill became power
hiking for the last sections..
Big thanks to Heiko as my support crew …
navigating and accessing the mobility shuttle
buses to get to each aid station was quite
an adventure for him too… it was a great
boost to see him at Champex-Lac, Triente,
Vallorcine and ultimately Chamonix. And to
all my awesome friends and family; the Sudbury
Rocks Running Club, YMCA Sudbury and everyone
else who tracked the race and cheered me on
thank you. Shelley Walushka thank you also
for the super sweet card for my finish……love
you all.
It was a dream to get here and I am so fortunate
to get the opportunity… so much more
to say but it would take too long to type
and even my hands feel tired!

What
is a backyard ultra?
In a backyard ultra, runners
complete a 6.7 kilometre loop every hour.
Why such an odd number? It is the pace equivalent
of running a 100 miles in 24 hours. The format
is simple yet demanding: runners have one
hour to finish the loop, and any time left
over can be used to rest, refuel, and prepare
for the next lap. This cycle repeats until
only one runner remains, having completed
one more loop than the second-to-last competitor.
But there’s more to
it than being the last bb standing. This format
allows you to truly challenge yourself to
go further than you’ve ever gone before,
whether that’s 13.4km, 100km, or more
??
Join us on October 5-6 at
Kivi Park and challenge yourself to go one
more lap.
