WOW!! What a great
day, we were so happy to see so many participants.
thank you to all those that volunteered, sponsored,
supported and donated to our event, in turn allowing
us to support The Northern Cancer Foundation and
Muscular Dystrophy Canada (through our awesome
local firefighters).
The new venue threw some curve balls at a few
of the regulars however I hope everyone enjoyed
it and we will tweak those trail signs!!
It's fantastic to have such an amazing venue to
make into our playground ...Thank you Kivi Park
for being a phenomenal host.
We enjoyed having the crowd stay around the finish
line, enjoy the BBQ and the great weather while
cheering on the remaining participants and then
the award winners. Well done Sudbury!!

Rocks!! Run Midnight
Sun Run In Inuvik N.W.T.
June 23, 2018
Vince and Lise Perdue in Inuvik
Another bucket lister out
of the way. Driving the Dempster and the new Tuk highway
has been turning my crank since the original completion
of the Dempster way back in 1978 or 79 when I read about
the construction in the Toronto Star. I vowed one day
I would drive it. The road to Tuktoyaktuk was not even
on the radar then.
Forward to 2017 when word
came that the new Inuvik to Tuk highway would be complete
in November. WELL! By December we had booked air travel
to Whitehorse and vehicle and room accommodations to cover
the round trip. Commencing in Whitehorse, then to Dawson
near where the Dempster actually starts. From there 500
spectacular miles of gravel land you in Inuvik. An awesome
but tougher 90 miles of new gravel road gets you to the
arctic coast and the Beaufort sea in Tuktoyaktuk.
Along the way we even got
an organized run under our belts in Inuvik. It was a great
experience running under the midnight sun even if it was
mostly overcast and a bit cool. There were participants
from as far away as Australia and California. Canada was
well covered too.
A few firsts happened in
this run for me. It was my first run in Inuvik, I came
first in my age group (I was the only 60 pluser), and
I came last for the first time ever. What a hoot! I had
lots of time to snap a few photos along the way. |
