Kivi Park

Apex X returns to Kivi Park! We're thrilled to reintroduce obstacle racing to Sudbury!

This event provides an opportunity for individuals across the province to unite, form bonds, and test their limits in a supportive and electrifying atmosphere. With more obstacles, running, and mud than ever before, Apex X promises an unforgettable experience for participants of all ages and fitness levels.

Prepare to tackle a variety of obstacles that will challenge you physically and mentally. From climbing walls, log carries, and monkey bars to navigating hills, mud pits, and cargo nets, you'll need strength, agility, and endurance to conquer the course.

Participants can opt for either a 6 km or 12 km route, making this event perfect for those seeking team-building and enjoyment. Train at Apex Warrior and explore the trails at Kivi Park to gear up for the race. Registration is NOW OPEN for the event scheduled on July 6th, 2023.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Accessibility Fund at Kivi Park. Every dollar raised by participants will be reinvested into the community through Kivi Park passes and various programs at the park. By joining the race, you're not just challenging yourself; you're supporting your community!

Join us in our endeavor to transform this event into a "wasteless race." We are committed to minimizing our environmental footprint by conscientiously selecting materials and purchasing only what is essential. Whenever possible, we opt for sustainable materials, aiming to pave the way for a greener future.

To further our commitment to hosting a "wasteless race," we're introducing an optional t-shirt feature in this year's race kit. Unlike previous years and other events where the cost of the t-shirt was included in the registration fee, we've opted for a different approach. As you'll notice, the registration cost for this race is lower because we haven't included the price of the t-shirt. Instead, participants have the choice to add a t-shirt to their registration if they wish to receive one. This allows us to minimize waste by only producing t-shirts for those who truly want them, contributing to a more sustainable event overall.

Apex X promises an exhilarating experience that will bring together individuals of all backgrounds. Get ready for a muddy and thrilling adventure that will create lasting memories for everyone involved. Don't miss out on this unforgettable event!

Chapter 13
The 60s: Boston or Bust (Part 1 of 2)
“I will never be an old man. To me, old age is always 15 years older than I am.”

- FRANCIS BACON, English Philosopher

Martin

The struggles of the past year just melted away. The injuries had been major obstacles to overcome but with the help of Malc and Evan the journey had continued. As an older athlete I know that there will be more physical challenges, but with help, I see no reason why we can’t continue to challenge ourselves and live a healthy life. I had taken on “62 beats 47” for a number of reasons. The goal was to beat my personal best times set 15 years ago, but the reality was that what really counted was the fact that I was just happy to be there.

Next morning I travelled back to Calgary via Vancouver. I was suffering from the marathon and sitting in a plane for hours on end didn’t help. When I arrived home Sue asked me how I felt and I told her that I had tried my hardest but I just couldn’t go any faster.

Thursday morning I headed over to Malc’s place. I was feeling a lot more refreshed and ready to debrief on everything that had happened during the year. To start things off Malc went over the results:

• 5K - 21:42 - PB21:05
• 10K - 45:03 - PB 42:00
• Half marathon - Scrubbed, due to injury - PB 1:30:01
• Marathon - 3:51:27 - PB 3:22:44
