Dear
LU Vees, Alumni and Supporters,
I'm writing to let you know that I'm stepping
down as head coach of the Laurentian women's and men's
XC/Track teams. I feel it's better that someone younger,
smarter and more patient take over the duties involved
as head coach.
I wouldn't have stepped down if I didn't
know the team would be in good hands, and they'll be in
the best hands possible. There should be a Laurentian
announcement about that next Tuesday or Wednesday.
I do hope to maintain some involvement
with the team, both behind-the-scenes and hopefully as
an assistant to the coaching staff. So, you'll still see
me lurking around the track.
I've had 24 years as head coach and it's
been my privilege and pleasure to have known you all.
I’ve been incredibly proud as I've watched your
lives unfold, and I’ll continue to keep track of
you.
My deepest thanks to all the community
support people who have helped to make this a quality
program, including Rickey Goudreau, Dr. Mary Olsten, Nicole
Dubuc, Dr. Al Dumencu, Kathy Jermyn and Terry Moss;
Also, our coaches past and present, Darren Jermyn, Jim
Taylor, Jenna Thornber, Kaitlyn Tallman, Joe Burke, Jim
Taylor, Tom Black, Lisa Labrecque, Mike Coughlin and Jordan
Calwell;
In the early days, van drivers Chris Hocking and Jamie
Innes, and the Moss family who provided us with accommodations;
The many student trainers and who've given freely of their
time and kept us healthy;
The dozens of volunteers like Vince, Frank, Sally, Bill
and the Jermyns, who regularly help us with our fundraising
events;
And, of course, our donors: Jesse Winters, Louis Moustgaard
and the Sudbury Masters Running Club, Bill & Sandy
Thompson, Frank and Sally Lesk and the many other financial
“angels” who have supported us through the
years.
I hope you'll all continue to support the team and the
new head coach. We've come through a couple of tough years,
but our roster continues to include talented student-athletes
whom we can help to develop athletically, academically
and otherwise. As I said, I’ll personally continue
to be involved, but not as the head coach.
Sincerely,
Dick Moss
Congratulations on your
retirement Dick
