Dear Participants and Friends,

Congratulations to all who took part in the 2nd edition of the SudburyROCKS!! Covid Marathon. Based on the photos received to date everyone had rewarding days.

Thank you for being part of an experience that helps unite our community through exercise and also provides needed support to our recipient charity - the Northern Cancer Foundation.

CALL TO ACTION FOR THE LU TRAILS AND GREENSPACE

The LU greenspace is threatened: Laurentian University has declared insolvency and is doing a review of its assets to decide what it will sell to pay its creditors. One of the assets being reviewed is the beloved LU greenspace and trail system. If the land is sold to private interests, this greenspace could be lost to development.

The LU greenspace is over 200 hectares of natural area between Lakes Ramsey, Nepahwin, Laurentian, and encompassing Bennet Lake. Included in the greenspace are: Nepahwin Beach, the Laurentian Nordic ski trails, and many favourite hiking trails & viewpoints, including part of the 10km hike around Lake Laurentian and the Trans Canada Trail.

Act now:

1) Call or e-mail your Councillor and ask them to do whatever is needed to protect this beloved natural area as a community greenspace. Phone 3-1-1, or find their contact information here.

2) Share a selfie or special photo from the LU greenspace with the hashtag #saveLUgreenspace.

3) Stay informed on what’s happening and how to help. Please go to the website to sign up.
