The LU greenspace is threatened: Laurentian
University has declared insolvency and is doing a review
of its assets to decide what it will sell to pay its creditors.
One of the assets being reviewed is the beloved LU greenspace
and trail system. If the land is sold to private interests,
this greenspace could be lost to development.
The LU greenspace is over 200 hectares
of natural area between Lakes Ramsey, Nepahwin, Laurentian,
and encompassing Bennet Lake. Included in the greenspace
are: Nepahwin Beach, the Laurentian Nordic ski trails,
and many favourite hiking trails & viewpoints, including
part of the 10km hike around Lake Laurentian and the Trans
Canada Trail.
Act now:
