Will and Tawnecia Tai
Run in Denmark
It has been a while since
Tawnecia & I have written a race report, so we
figured with all of extra mental and physical challenges
people are going through this year with Covid-19 we
would provide a little entertainment and positivity!
We have always enjoyed Albatros Adventure Marathons
around the world. They only had one race this year
due to Covid-19 (the rest of the races have been cancelled),
so this made the decision easy to travel to Bornholm,
Denmark to enjoy the wilderness, beautiful landscape,
history and friendly people, as well as support a
travel company that has brought us many wonderful
memories.
The course was a true trail run with the majority
of the terrain taking place on hiking and biking trails
overlooking the Baltic Sea. It was a challenging route
with no flat sections (my Garmin stated that there
was a 1.2km elevation gain). There were 26 men and
7 women who finished the marathon, as well as 12 men
and 15 women who completed the half marathon. I finished
the full marathon in 5:39:19 and Tawnecia completed
the half marathon in 2:36:48. Runners came from the
Netherlands, Austria, Germany, Ireland, UK, Denmark,
USA, Russia and Canada (us).
One of our favourite things about the race was meeting
a small group of runners and thereby getting to know
many of them, and enjoying the "hygge" atmosphere
at the end of the race with a Danish BBQ and beer.
We've included a few photos of the race (Tawnecia
is in red and white at the start line with Hammershus
in the background - the largest castle ruins in Northern
Europe, and I am seen climbing a steep section in
the Quarry).
See you on the Trails!
