As you know i am a very
private person, but this is something i had to share
with all of you.
A couple of weeks ago I got notification
that I had to be at Laurentian University on June 5th
for the Physical Education Graduation. When I got there,
I found out that I had to suit up and wear a gown. To
find out after that I was going to be part of the procession
going on the stage with all the Physical Education Professors,
who taught me long ago. it was such an amazing feeling
from the beginning.
Not knowing what was waiting for me,
I had the pleasure to see all graduates from this program
coming one by one accepting their degree! I was so pleased
to see so many familiar faces who graduated from St.
Charles College.
Then after all of the Graduates received
their degree, came the part where I was called to go
and accept the Human Kinetic Exceptional Alumni Award
for the following reasons.
1- For my Leadership into the coordination
of the largest Northern Ontario Program called FITSPIRIT
that aims to get school girls moving, to help them get
better self esteem , and to show them how to have fun
with friends. Over the past 5 years I have seen this
program expanding from 10 schools to close to 30 schools
in Northern Ontario ( from North Bay to Sault Ste-Marie
and as far as Marathon).
2- For my contribution to our Northern
community through the creation of the GIRLS RUN SUDBURY
also 5 years ago that offers opportunity to all females
to participate in a day filled with lots of energy,
yoga, zumba and of course the walk/run/race of 3 distances
- 2.5 k, 5 k, 10 k , which participants can do with
their friends, or as a mother-daughter team. We have
seen this event grow from 100 participants to be a sold
out event with over 500 participants this year. I am
anticipating that next year this event will continue
to grow.
After receiving such an award, I was
in shock, and I was very honored to have received this
incredible mention. I am so grateful, words can not
describe this amazing feeling. From the bottom of my
heart this is something I can say - I made a difference
as a high school teacher for our Northern community.
After some reflection, I came up with
few more ideas to help our community in getting moving
and having fun! For those who have read it through,
like the Girls Run Sudbury page, and the Girls Run Sudbury
Running Group on Facebook to receive more details about
what is coming soon!
