NORTH BAY RUNNING NEWS
Congratulations to the North Bay athletes who competed at the
Ontario Command Legion Track and Field meet in London Ontario
last weekend. Levi Charbonneau won the silver medal in the 17
years and under in the Pole Vault with a vault of 3.84. Adam
Newton continued his hot hand this year winning the silver in
the 100m in 10.98 into the wind. Adam also he placed 4th in
the 200m in 22.5. Jennifer Gault won the bronze medal in the
17 years and under high jump with a jump of 1.57. Jennifer also
placed 8th in the 200m in 27.5. Kelly Miller placed 9th in the
800m in 2.31 and 11th in the 1500m in 5.13 in the 17 years and
under category. Lucas McAneney placed 7th and 13th respectively
in the 3,000m in 9.19 and 4.22 in the 1500m to run out the rope
in what has been a long stretch of racing this year. Kudos again
to North Bayites Marcus Popp for his 2nd place finish in the
Pole Vault and Greg Baril-Kenny in the High Jump at the Nationals
in Victoria last weekend. To have two national ranked athletes
in high profile events finish in the top ten, from the population
base of North Bay is significant.
The results of the second and last Twilight meet at Cundari
Field on July 23rd show cased a double victory for Lucas McAneney,
who won the 1500 meter race and came back ten minutes later
to win the 5,000m despite a hot pursuit by Ed McColm who couldn’t
match the closing speed of the younger adversary. Based on the
feedback from the competitors, there is keen interest to have
more of these types of low key competitions next summer.
