Northerners, especially those who swim in northern lakes,
are a hardy bunch.
And never was that more true than on Sunday, July 19 at
the Ian McCloy 26th annual Island Swim in Lake Nepahwin.
With water temperatures hovering around 68 degrees Fahrenheit,
58 competitors, ranging in age from 2 to 56, raced in the
annual event which is part of the Sudbury Fitness Challenge
Series.
Buddy Green was the overall winner of the 1-mile event
for the fifth consecutive year. He completed the loop of
Meda Island in 18 minutes 53 seconds. Spencer Allen won
the 400-metre race and Erin Kendall and Neal Younggregoris
sprinted to the finish to share the 100-metre title.
The 2-mile swim was cancelled this year due to cold water
temperatures.
