2020 Virtual SudburyROCKS!!! Marathon Raises $77,000 for the NCF

IONIC's Andre Dumais, NCF's Anthony Keating and SudburyROCKS!!! Vince Perdue

With your help the 2020 Virtual SudburyROCKS!!! Marathon Raised $77,000 for the Northern Cancer Foundation!

As you and 700 other participants hit the streets on Sunday, October 25th by running and walking all over the province (and sprinkled throughout the world), $77,000 was raised for the Northern Cancer Foundation (NCF).

This year presented a number of challenges to our annual race such as the change of date and decision to go virtual, but the biggest hurdle came with the loss of SudburyROCKS!!! Marathon co-founder Steve Matusch to cancer on March 11th. Steve was the visionary behind the race and was an inspiration to all runners and walkers of the event. This year, SudburyROCKS!!! and the NCF adopted the hashtag #RunningforSteve in his memory.

“This year has been a great success, but it has also been very difficult,” said Vince Perdue, co-founder of SudburyROCKS!!! and close friend to Steve. “It’s definitely a bittersweet moment. We’re so proud of what we were able to accomplish with SudburyROCKS!!! this year, but not having Steve with us to see it and run the race is just so different. I know he would be proud of what we have achieved and of this donation to local cancer care.”

“We are grateful to the many runners, donors and community partners for coming together to make the virtual SudburyROCKS!!! Marathon a success,” says Anthony Keating, President & CDO of Foundations and Volunteer Groups at HSN. “Scrolling through the numerous posts on social media, it is clear how special this event is. We are proud to be supported by the SudburyROCKS!!! community.”

The Northern Cancer Foundation would also like to recognize the top and notable pledge earners for the 2020 SudburyROCKS!!! Marathon:

• Top Pledge Earner & Celebrity Runner – Andre Dumais, $8,376

• 2nd Place Pledge Earner – Dr. Janet McElhaney, $3,950

• Celebrity Runner Greg Williams, over $2,500

• Lisa Tobodo – over $1,050

• Celebrity Runner Bryan “Coop” Cooper, over $1000

• Dr. Ryan Carlson, Northeast Cancer Centre Oncologist, $900

Who’d of thunk we’d be running in shorts and a T-shirt in November, up North to boot. This could only happen in 2020!!! Crazy year.
Tawnie, Will and I met in Haileybury to run the virtual half for The Day of the Dead. We ran the Haunted Hustle race course because who doesn’t want to run the most hilly course they know. But seriously, it’s a beautiful course and the weather was truly amazing. I was actually sweating. Tawnie lead the way and I struggled to keep up with her at the end.
