The final Apex Warrior 6km, 12.5km, 25km and 50km will soon be officially underway.

There was a bit of confusion about the start date though. Originally scheduled starting Sep 20 and running for one week, the Organizers changed the start date to Sep 27 late in the game. Unfortunately the registration banner still indicated the Sep 20 start time and we even received Facebook messages for Sep 20. Needless to say the course was yet to be marked when 5 of us took on the 12.5km challenge on Saturday Sep. 20. Fortunately we had reviewed the online map before venturing out and had no trouble navigating the many twists and turns so no harm done. A couple of us are very intimate with the Laurentian trail system.

All in all, we had a great experience.

There's still time to sign up. You will find the course challenging and twisting but very rewarding. And there's many options to choose what works for you. All the way from 6km to the ultimate challenge of the 50km.

Run for a Cure Oct. 4: Watch opening ceremonies online, run in your neighbourhood
Reimagined run includes app, customizable avatar runners

The Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) and CIBC are inviting Sudbury residents to join the reimagined CIBC Run for the Cure on Oct. 4.

For nearly three decades, the CIBC Run for the Cure has united a collective of Canadians who are a force-for-life in the face of breast cancer.

Cancer doesn't stop being a life-changing and life-threatening disease in the middle of a pandemic.

Every day, more than 75 Canadians are diagnosed with breast cancer. As a higher-risk population, people living with cancer rely on the same health-care system that is still responding to COVID-19 and its impacts.

Now more than ever, the cause needs widespread support to ensure that no Canadian has to face breast cancer alone.

"Since we can’t meet in person this year, we have reimagined the CIBC Run for the Cure into a one-of-a-kind experience with both physical and virtual components," Canadian Cancer Society representative Felicia Brunelle said, in a press release.

"With new and innovative ways to participate, we're asking all Sudbury residents to join us to show people affected by breast cancer that they aren’t alone."

This year's Run for the Cure will include both physical and virtual components. With an easy-to-use mobile app and website, participants can create and customize their own virtual avatar runner, fundraise to unlock rewards and track their activity.

On run day, participants can join the opening ceremonies online before heading out to walk or run in their neighbourhood.

The opening ceremonies will be livestreamed on Canadian Cancer Society’s Facebook and YouTube channels at 11:30 a.m. and will be hosted by Jully Black, the award-winning singer-songwriter dubbed Canada’s Queen of R&B Soul. Viewers can also expect a high-energy warm-up and powerful performances from Barenaked Ladies, Jess Moskaluke and Carolyn Dawn Johnson.

Sudburians can register or make a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run For The Cure at cibcrunforthecure.com.

Once again the SudburyRocks!! Running Club has entered a team in the CIBC Run for the Cure. There is no glory in running fast and coming first this year. Just the fact that you can make a bit of a difference in the fight against breast cancer.
