Rocks!! Stephanie Koett Runs in Georgia

The inaugural Carrollton Half Marathon presented by Tanner Health System will take place on September 7, 2019. The 13.1 mile course will take you from Carrollton's Historic Adamson Square, through city proper and nearly nine smooth miles over shaded, rolling hills on the city’s new multi-use bike/running path, the GreenBelt. The beautiful route finishes back at Adamson Square for a finish line festival not to be missed, featuring live music, local food vendors, and beer from local craft breweries.

This course makes a great event for first timers, those looking for a half marathon personal best, or an end-of-summer tune up for fall marathon season.

Registration includes an inaugural Carrollton Half Marathon T-shirt, finisher’s medal, and free food and drink tickets to the post-race festivities.

Carrollton Georgia Half Marathon by Stephanie Koett

I hadn’t raced since an injury sidelined me after the 2015 Chicago marathon. A visit to my sister’s place in Alabama last March 2019 sealed my fate. A close friend of hers (and mine ) suggested it would be a great idea to participate in the first annual Carrollton GA Half marathon. After months of procrastination and several texts of “have you signed up yet?”, I finally ran with it ( pun intended ).

On September 7th, I participated with approx 400 other runners in the first annual Carrollton half marathon. It started out a perfect temperature of 21 deg C and quickly climbed to 30 plus. We ran mostly on the GreenBelt ( a series of cycling and running paths ). I was mesmerized with the lush beauty and somewhat rolling hills of the first part of the course. And yep….the honeymoon ended soon after the 10 km mark…..climbing….climbing….climbing…..oh and look at that….another hill :-( All in all it was a fun event. I managed to get first place out of 13 in my age group.

Half Start

The Ramsey Tour Half always teaches me humility. I’ve had many times where I’ve finished in tears. I kept patient with my pacing through the incredibly hilly first 8k and listened to my body, which allowed me to feel strong to the finish. Wisdom does come with age and experience doesn’t it Vince Perdue?

Bean ran her first 5k race today! Thanks to her favourite LEP team girls. Grateful I don’t have to double run today now.

Love the trophy Jesse Winters! I always remember these with pride

Sara McIlraith

This was my first time participating in this race & I loved it! The hills are challenging & fortunately my feet held up! I still stuck to using this run for training & not competition.
I finished with a respectable time of 1:50:27 & finished 21st overall, 5th female & 2nd place in my category.
Congratulations to everyone that participated today!!! And as always, a huge thank you to the volunteers!!!

Ashley Hayes

I did it ....after over 10 years of not running anything over 10km (with the exception of Spartan and OCR races which I run and hike, plus the obstacles, I ran a half marathon...WHHHHAAATTTTTT?? I’m super happy with my finish: 2hrs:05min:04sec, 3rd in age group (35-39), 14th overall in women and 39th overall Thanks Mandy Lynn for being a crazy awesome friend and convincing me to do this run ...cheers to more adventures. It was also super nice to see Ashley Hayes and other familiar faces out this morning ...it was a hilly, but beautiful run ...congrats to everyone. Thanks to the organizers and the fabulous volunteers.

Description

When the first Afghan woman stood up for her freedom and ran in the Marathon of Afghanistan, she started a movement for equality that spread around the world. Zainab’s story inspired legendary marathon runner, Martin Parnell, to imagine what his life might be like if his gender prevented him from going outside to run. Martin vowed to run in the Marathon of Afghanistan the following year to support Zainab, and partnered with filmmaker and first time marathoner, Kate McKenzie, to tell the story. To avoid making the marathon a target for terrorist attack, they must train, and travel to Afghanistan in secret, where they will uncover unexpected beauty, incredible hardships, and the amazing people who stand for change. This is the story of the brave Afghan women who are risking it all for the freedom to run.
